The temperature and pressure of the steam being transported are important factors in selecting insulation materials. High-temperature, high-pressure steam requires high-temperature resistant, high-strength insulation materials, such as aluminium silicate, microporous calcium silicate, etc.; medium and low-temperature steam can use glass wool, rock wool, etc. For example, for steam pipelines transporting pressure of 2.5Mpa and temperature below 350℃, a composite insulation structure of aluminium silicate needled blanket + glass wool is commonly used. It can also combine inorganic insulation layers (such as microporous calcium silicate) and organic insulation layers (such as polyurethane) to meet the insulation needs in high-temperature, high-pressure environments.
Secondly, the method of laying the steam pipeline and the environment in which it is located must also be considered, such as underground direct burial, overhead laying, indoor and outdoor environments, etc. Underground direct burial pipelines require insulation materials to have good waterproof and compressive properties; overhead laying pipelines need to consider the material’s wind resistance and UV resistance. In humid environments, priority is given to insulation materials with good waterproof and moisture-proof properties; in environments with a risk of chemical corrosion, corrosion-resistant insulation materials must be used.
Of course, due to the significant price differences between different insulation materials, cost must be comprehensively considered under the premise of meeting insulation performance and engineering requirements. For example, rock wool and glass wool have relatively low costs and are widely used in projects sensitive to cost and with moderate performance requirements; some high-performance, special materials, although more expensive, still have application value in important projects with extremely high requirements for insulation effect and service life. At the same time, construction costs, maintenance costs, and other comprehensive cost factors must also be considered.
The selection of insulation materials for steel-sheathed steel steam insulation pipelines requires comprehensive consideration of various factors. By reasonably selecting insulation materials, the insulation effect of pipelines can be effectively improved, energy loss reduced, pipeline service life extended, and a solid guarantee provided for the stable and efficient operation of the steam transport system.
